Quartz just released a report on CBD and there was one part in particular that CBD Up Close is going to focus on: CBD and Chill.

CBD Stress Relief
Relaxing, stress and anxiety relief, and improved sleep are the three top categories for why people use CBD products, especially younger people. From Quartz:
On top of that, researchers hypothesize that the endocannabinoid system—the network of neurotransmitters in our brains and nervous systems that’s stimulated by cannabinoids, including CBD—acts as a powerful “dimmer switch” that helps modulate brain activity and mood. Some even suggest it’s the endocannabinoid system, rather than endorphins, that exercise activates, resulting in the euphoric elation of a “runner’s high.”
Quartz
The Consumer Reports’ research that CBD Up Close recently analyzed tracks with Quartz’ findings as well. While Consumer Reports showed less usage, stress relief was still the number one reason for people using CBD products.
And in the Consumer Reports research they also published effectiveness ratings, which Quartz hasn’t done. For stress and anxiety relief, they reported that 63% of users found that the CBD products that they were using were either “extremely or very effective”. Now, this could be the placebo affect but I think that the part of the article from Quartz that is quoted above makes more sense.
Relaxation v Pain Relief for CBD Marketing
CBD Up Close thinks that a strong case can be made for CBD being used as an alternative medicine for pain relief, we made that case in a previous article. People with aches and pains will, under the supervision of their medical provider, mix and match drugs until they find the correct mix and dosage of drugs before they get something that works.
Relaxation is another matter and based off of what we see more and more people are looking to CBD products in order to help them relax. Why?
- CBD can be cheaper than prescription drugs
- CBD is not addictive, or at least significantly less addictive, than prescription drugs
- We haven’t heard of anyone overdosing on CBD products but we cannot say the same about prescription drugs
- Most users do not experience the same kind of lethargy when using CBD products as they do when they are using some prescription drugs
- CBD products can actually be quite tasty
Marketing CBD as a way to chill out and reduce stress and anxiety seems like a winning formula. And, based off of some limited research and much anecdotal evidence it certainly looks like CBD can deliver on that.
